By Drew Moyer, Underwriter – GL · USMC Insurance

Underwriting Services Management Co (USMC Insurance), an E&S MGA, writes general liability specifically for rebar installation contractors in every U.S. state except Alaska. Eligible work includes rebar fabrication, rebar mesh fabrication and installation, and rebar installation — including new ventures — with limits up to 2M/4M/4M, Action Over coverage, and a $100,000 minimum premium.

Why rebar contractors are hard to place

Rebar installation is a heavy-construction trade with real bodily-injury exposure, so many standard carriers decline it or lump it into a generic “concrete contractor” class that doesn’t fit. An E&S MGA that underwrites rebar directly can offer terms built for the actual work.

What rebar work is eligible?

  • Rebar installation
  • Rebar fabrication
  • Rebar mesh fabrication and installation
  • New ventures (start-up contractors)

Ineligible: super-structure work.
